About Chopta, Uttarakhand

Chopta is a scenic hamlet nestled in the Garhwal Himalayas of Rudraprayag district, Uttarakhand. Sitting at an altitude of approximately 2,680 metres (8,790 ft), it serves as the base camp for the Tungnath–Chandrashila trek — one of the most rewarding high-altitude trails in India.

Often called the Mini Switzerland of Uttarakhand, Chopta offers sweeping meadows blanketed with rhododendrons and oak forest, with panoramic views of Trishul, Nanda Devi, Chaukhamba and Kedarnath peaks. Its proximity to Tungnath — the highest Shiva temple in the world at 3,680m — makes it a spiritual destination as much as a trekking one, drawing pilgrims, nature lovers and adventure seekers year-round.
